  • San Diego Zoo

I started as a koala keeper in 1990 and have been working with the species over the past 24 years. I am also the program manager for the Zoo's Koala Education and Conservation Program. We work with 11 zoos in North America and Europe that participate in the program. It is important to breed these animals to maximize genetic diversity, and I am the Koala Studbook Keeper and Species Survival Plan Coordinator. My greatest achievement with koalas is not the grand or large achievements that matter most, but the small day-to-day achievements, such as the birth of a joey or the celebration of the koala program's 30th anniversary, that can have the greatest impact.
